Winter Activities in Park City, Utah

Winter in Park City, Utah is an ideal time to visit. This charming mountain town offers plenty of activities beyond skiing and snowboarding.

Skiing and snowboarding are Park City’s most popular winter activities, but there’s so much more to enjoy in the snow than that. From tubing to snowshoeing, explore some of Park City’s top winter activities below!

Tubing in Park City

Other than skiing, tubing is by far one of the most fun winter activities to do with the whole family. You can experience the rush of sliding down a snowy hill on an inflatable tube – it’s a favorite among locals, and visitors. It’s simple to get into and makes for great breaks between skiing or snowboarding sessions.

Woodward Park City has renovated Old Gorgoza into a cutting-edge facility with 7 tubing lanes, 1200 feet of track, an upgraded magic carpet and lights so you can even go after the sun goes down.

Snow tubing can be enjoyed in the winter months – weekdays and later in the season offer more cost-effective rates than winter weekend days, plus group rates for groups of 20 or more can be booked. Be sure and check availability for Tubing at Woodward Park City before you go.

Skiers often make the most of Utah’s legendary winter powder, but tubing is a fun activity for the whole family that requires no specialized gear or long lines at the lifts.

Soldier Hollow Tubing Park, situated near Midway in Wasatch Mountain State Park, used to claim the longest tubing lanes in Utah. A former Olympic venue, it features 1,200-foot sliding lanes that are serviced by magic carpets.

Soldier Hollow tubing requires a bit more driving than Woodward – Park City, but the extra adventure and fun is worth the extra effort. Tickets range from $15-$32 depending on the time of year and days you go. For example weekdays are cheaper than the weekend. Tickets will typically give you a 2-hour session. As this site is more remote than Woodward, make sure you have your own transportation, and you can look online for availability.

Skiing at Deer Valley

Skiing is a major draw for winter visitors to Park City, Utah. And for a special “skiers-only” experience make your way a little bit further up the hill from Park City and visit Deer Valley.

Deer Valley Resort is one of the nation’s most beloved luxury ski destinations, and for good reason. Its exceptional guest service, consistent quality and attention to detail have made it a favorite for skiers looking to get away from the busier mountain of Park City.

At Deer Valley Resort, there are plenty of slopes to suit all abilities and skill levels. The resort limits lift ticket sales daily and grooms the slopes meticulously for premium conditions on the mountain.

To maximize your skiing experience, you’ll definitely want to check snow conditions at the resort before hitting the slopes. Factors like height and quality of snowfall, temperature, visibility and windchill should all be taken into account prior to hitting the slopes.

Ski season typically runs from November to April, with the best snow coverage and prices occurring in December through March. Furthermore, due to the Sundance Film Festival bringing thousands of people into the area, expect longer lift lines and higher prices during these dates.

Snowboarding at Park City Resort

No matter your skill level or experience level, Park City’s resort will have terrain specifically for you. With 9,300 acres of terrain to explore, you’ll find something that satisfies your thirst for thrills and fresh snow.

If you’re more of an adrenaline seeker, Park City offers terrain parks and half-pipes that you won’t want to miss. The terrain parks feature large jumps, manmade rails, and fixed features designed specifically for freestyle riding.

When you’re not snowboarding the slopes, enjoy an apres ski at one of Park City’s many bars and restaurants. Check out Umbrella Bar at Canyons Village or The Corner Store at Park City Base. For an on-mountain snack, my favorite place is Summit House. You can enjoy a quick bite, and incredible views from the top.

Utah is an ideal snowboarding destination with its amazing weather and powder. It’s also a great place to take your family for a weekend getaway!

If you’re not a fan of driving in the snow, consider taking the bus or taxi instead. There are frequent buses around Park City and an electric bus system that will help you bypass traffic and get where you need to go without breaking a sweat.

Park City Mountain and Canyons resorts offer season passes with lift tickets, lessons and access to all mountain amenities. Additionally, you can purchase an Epic Pass for additional benefits at these and other Park City resorts.

January in Park City is a special time of year. One of the things that brings in crowds after the holidays, is the Sundance Film Festival.

Sundance Film Festival is one of the most known winter festivals to take over the streets of Park City.  Traditionally held in January, this film festival draws celebrities from all over the world to watch new movies and meet up with others who share their passion for filmmaking.

The Sundance Film Festival is the largest independent film festival in the United States and was awarded this status in 2016. More than 46,660 people attended the event in 2016, making it the most visited of all the major US movie festivals.

Fat-tire biking

Fat-tire biking is an increasingly popular winter activity. These bikes boast wide tires that enable riders to traverse various terrains, such as snow and sand.

These bikes offer comfort and can be ridden through wintery terrain with ease. Furthermore, they’re incredibly user-friendly – ideal for those who have never pedaled a bicycle before.

Two of the most popular trails to test out a fat bike in Park City are Glenwild and Round Valley. There are miles and miles of groomed mountain bike trails. The trails are fairly well maintained, and are popular with hikers and cross-country skiers alike, so the trail is more likely to be packed in for an easier trail ride on the fat-tire bike.

If you’re searching for a fat bike to rent in Park City, check out White Pine Touring. They offer rentals and guided tours if you want to be taken on the most popular trails and not get lost.

Sleigh Ride In Park City

For a truly unique experience in Park City, book a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the snow. This excursion is one of the top tours offered in Park City. You’ll leave from Canyons Village and embark on a 25-minute ride through Willow Draw. Blankets are provided, however you’ll probably want to bundle up to stay warm.

For another unique experience and perfect date night, take a snow-cat pulled, sleigh ride to the Viking Yurt on Park City Mountain. This is a one-of-a-kind adventure that starts at The Viking Yurt, then climbs 1,800 feet uphill along a snowy trail. It finishes at a dinner and beautiful venue where you can enjoy stunning views of the incredible terrain and an overlook of the twinkling lights of Park City at night.
